House of Love

There’s no culture clash in our international house blend, that’s fast becoming a modern classic.

If you’ve followed our little micro-blog series, we hope you’ve enjoyed the whistle-stop tour of where we source our favourite beans, that we lovingly hand-roast for you, our customers. From spritely-sharp Kenya, to the dizzying heights of South American mountains, every bag we make tells a big story about our international expeditions to find the best of the best for you (and us).

Fitting then, that we finish the series with our own coffee, which is kind of the sum of all that knowledge, the OHCO Casa House Blend.

Crafted from Colombian, Brazilian, and Ethiopian coffee beans, Casa Ohco is a harmonious fusion of distinct flavours. It’s fair to say there was a lot of tasting, late nights, near misses and horrid messes before we finally arrived at a blend we could say with confidence ‘yup, that’s us”.

OHCO founder Paul was the chief architect of this process, experiencing no little tragedy alongside triumph along the way: “The OHCO house blend was developed through extensive roast profiling and recipe testing. It’s founded on a powerful mix of Colombian, Brazilian, and Ethiopian beans - which I admit are real personal favourites of mine. Not surprising I guess, not only did we want to make a coffee that would have a wide appeal, but also something that I would like to drink. A lot.”

So, creating Casa Ohco Blend was a laborious, yet very rewarding process. The team set themselves a mission to balance sharpness, finish, and versatility, all in a blend that was as good as an Americano as it was as an espresso. “The team really wanted to ensure it shone in every scenario. Whether brewed in one of our super hi-tech Slayer machine, through a simple filter, or a stovetop moka, it had to keep its character, and of course, taste great” he continues.

However, Casa Ohco Blend is more than just a sum of its parts. It celebrates the cultures, traditions, and people behind each cup, and if you’ve been following our little travel diary of all things coffee, you’ll find its flavour profiles familiar.

There’s rich notes of chocolate alongside with hints of nuts, fudge, that’s something of the South American vibe running through it, whilst the citrus twang and ‘pick-me-up’ feel owes something to the sharper flavour we get from Ethiopia.

Best of all for its drinkers, there’s the knowledge that every bean is sourced to be as sustainable as possible and is contributing to the coffers of small-volume, chemical free coffee craftsmen — not to the books of a huge volume factory farmed plantation.

And yet, for all its complexity, Casa Ohco Blend remains an everyday coffee, perfectly suited for both the morning rush and lazy afternoons.

“In the end, we wanted to create something that is very unique and never dull,” adds Paul. “But a house blend? We think that has to be something that you can always drink, whatever the mood or moment. And with this, you can. From a punchy espresso to a milky me-time drink, it just works.

“We’d like to thank the producers who gave us the ingredients to make something that everyone can enjoy. Obviously though, we like to think the way those tastes combine and deliver something delicious to everyone, every time? That’s our OHCO magic.”
